Soywax Softground + Spit Bite Etching

Capture beautiful line variations and washy watercolor like areas of tone in this full day workshop. We will work with a soywax softground, a non toxic ground composed of soywax and ink, to achieve a broad range of lines from thick crayon like lines to crisp thin lines. During the second half of the workshop we will add spit bite onto our copper plates. A spit bite etching is a painterly way to work with an aquatint. With a spit bite you paint directly onto your plate with ferric chloride.

Chine-collé + White Ground Etching

Explore the possibilities of white ground etching- an alternative soap ground, and chine-collé in this full day workshop. White ground is a very malleable ground that can be watered down, scratched into and built up to allow for a wide range of textures and tonalities in a single etch. Chine-collé is a great method of adding color and texture to your prints. With chine-collé thin glue backed papers in addition to your print paper are printed in unison, fusing both papers together with the printed image on top. In this workshop participants will learn how to prepare their own chine-collé papers.
